Starting Our New AMSN Chapter and its Success!

by: Mary Michelle Adams, RN, CMSRN

Why did you decide to join and/or start an AMSN chapter, and what are your duties? I am the president of our local chapter.

We started our chapter on 2/1/15 with a handfull of nurses. Now we are 26 members strong! We are Central Valley Med-Surg Nurses #614!

What do you love about being a Med-Surg nurse?

I love being at the bedside, the diversity of care, and the amazing med-surg nurses that work beside me!

Read more like this, and tell us what you love about being a med-surg nurse!

How would you describe the particular challenges, setbacks, and successes that you've encountered along the way?

We have four members from our chapter at conference! Other members are volunteered their time at the Visalia Relay For Life event!

Tell us what has has been your greatest accomplishment(s) in your chapter?

We have become more involved in our communities, We are spreading the word about the many benefits of membership in AMSN. We have had multiple educational events with speakers. We are having a blast!

What other plans/events/celebrations would you like to see in your chapter in the future?

I would like to continue to grow our chapter. There are amazing med-surg nurses in our community, and I want us to bond together, and be a strong, committed, unified face of med/surg nursing!

What advice would you like to pass on to other AMSN chapters, or someone who is interested in starting their own AMSN chapter?

Keep it simple!
